Boy bands and Girl bands are growing rapidly and there are even some who have successfully penetrated the Global market. Well … here are KMazing’s picks on the 10 Hottest K-Pop Girl band of 2018.

LOVELYZ

Lovelyz is arguably one of the most successful girl groups in 2018. This group has quite a lot of members, namely Baby Soul, Jeong Ye In, Seo Ji Soo, Ryu Soo Jung, Yoo Ji Ae, Kei, Lee Mi Joo, and Jin. They managed to hold a concert for 3 consecutive days in February which is a huge deal for establishing their position in the top 10. The concert was always fully filled with their fans which made the concert tickets sold out in just one minute after the channel opened. The girl group also made their comeback last April with the 4th mini album. The album was titled “Heal” and won the first place on MTV The Show SBS on May 1, 2018.

MOMOLAND

Debuting with nine-girl members group hosted by Yeonwoo, Hyebin, Nayun, Jane, Taeha, JooE, Daisy, Ahin, and Nancy, Momoland is getting quite a successful year. They debuted in 2016 through a famous survival program held by Mnet under the title “Finding Momoland.” A year after their debut they have managed to bring home the Best New Star award while also taking home the Asian Rising Star Award.

The success story did not stop there, with the release of a song titled “BBoom BBoom” Momoland won the first platinum certificate under their name while the MV has now reached over 250 million views on Youtube. At the end of June 2018, they released another song titled “BAAM” and now has successfully gathered more than 100 million viewers. Momoland’s achievement is certainly great considering that there are only a few K-Pop groups that are able to reach the 100 million views for their music video.

(G) I-DLE

Making their debut in 2018, (G) I-DLE instantly captivates K-Pop lovers. The impression of being cute while also keeping it sexy and strong is the real charms that push on this group over the other debutants. While the impact is there, the effect is also imminent, the new girl group is bound to achieve a great success this year.

Their debut song “LATATA” has managed to get the fastest win on the music program beating its predecessors such as 2ne1 and Miss A. (G) I-DLE only took 20 days to take home the first trophy of SBS MTV’s music program ‘The Show’. Not long ago, another single titled “HANN” has also managed to occupy the 18th position on melOn Chart. In addition, this super rookie has also reached the sacral first position in Bugs while keeping it competitive by reaching fifth place in Genie and Olleh Music Chart.

LOONA

LOONA is one of the Korean group rookies who also debuted almost simultaneously with (G) I-DLE. Even though it doesn’t come from a well-known agency, this Blockberry Creative girl group has stolen the public’s attention even before its debut. This group has an interesting pre-debut project that is by introducing its members per unit until the 12th member and finally making their debut.

Before their debut on the small screen, they also performed a pre-debut concert which turned out to be a powerful promotional project to attract fans. LOONA’s debut concert ticket sold out in just 2 minutes which proved their immense popularity. Their first album titled (+ +) successfully released and finished 4th on the Billboard World Albums. The “favorite” song also managed to occupy the 4th position on Billboard World Digital Songs. With this extraordinary achievement, it would be appropriate to label LOONA as a rookie monster girl group.

GFRIEND

Although not coming from The Big Three Agencies (SM, YG, JYP), Gfriend’s has successfully caught the attention of K-Pop lovers since their debut. This group has a signature of energetic dance and charming beat on their song. Tho, it can be debatable at this point, lots of K-Pop lovers did say that the complicated and knife-like choreography of Gfriend earned them the nickname of the girl version of BTS.

GFriend has six beautiful and multitalented members namely Sowon, SinB, Yerin, Yuju, Eunha, and Umji. In 2018, Gfriend through their song “Time for the Moon Night” managed to win lots of awards trophies on various music shows such as the trophy they got from the music program The Show, Show Champion, Music Core and so on. Through these awards, GFrined managed to prove that even a girl group that did not come from a large agency can still survive and achieved lots of things in the Korean music industry. Gfriend is also famous for their harmony in performing the dance moves that are always in uniform.

MAMAMOO

Adopting the concept of retro, jazz, and R & B Mamamoo debuted in 2014 with four members namely Moonbyul, Solar, Wheein, and Hwasa. Mamamoo has quite a unique spectrum of fans due to their quirky personalities and of course, lots of hits song such as Mr. Ambigous, Um Oh Ah Yeh. The overall mature concept of this girl group has successfully enlivened the Korean music industry.

Each member of Mamamoo also has undoubted vocal abilities, they can conquer low or high notes easily. Not long ago, Mamamoo makes a successful comeback with a new song titled “Egotistic” and managed to bring home several victories. One of them is their victory on M! Countdown.

SNSD

At this rate, it’s almost impossible not to have heard this legendary girl group, one of the SM Entertainment’s girl group who has been working for over 10 years has indeed achieved a lot of achievements. After experiencing problems due to the drop of Jessica from the team and the contract extension dispute which sees Sooyoung, Tiffany, and Seohyun leaving SM Entertainment, the girl group did make a sweet and short comeback with their sub-unit dubbed Oh GG! in 2018.

GG itself is actually an abbreviation of Girls Generation which is another name for SNSD. This sub-unit consisting of only five members, Yuri, Sunny, Taeyeon, Hyoyeon, and YoonA debuted with the single “Lil ‘Touch”. According to Allkpop, Lil ‘Touch’s music video won more than 9.02 million views in 24 hours. This number also takes Lil ‘Touch to be crown as the video with the most number of views for K-Pop debut video clip in the first 24 hours. This proves that Girls Generation is still very much loved by their fans until now.

In fact, Taeyeon, the leader of GG, also has a solo album and has held concerts with lots of songs from her personal album. Not only that, but some SNSD members are also active in small screen, making their impact in K-drama. Yoona, Yuri, Sooyoung, and the maknae, Seohyun is appearing more and more in the latest production of K-drama.

RED VELVET

There is no doubt that every girl group formed by SM Entertainment will always be successful in the Korean music industry. This also happened to one of their new girl groups called Red Velvet. Even though they have only recently debuted, Red Velvet did manage to win many awards, such as best Girl Group of 2017. Debuted in 2014, the girl group consisted of four members namely Irene, Wendy, Seulgi, and Joy, then the addition of Yeri in 2015 complete the concept.

The success of Red Velvet also continued into 2018, their new song titled Power Up managed to carve a lot of records. Power Up has been recorded as many as 86 thousand times in just one hour of release. In addition to that, the Summer Magic album has also reached the number 2 position on the iTunes chart. Now, in addition to SNSD, Red Velvet is known as a girl group that not only displays the pretty visuals but also becoming the mainstay vocals from SM Entertainment.

TWICE

Supported by nine beautiful and talented members, Jihyo, Jeongyeon, Nayeon, Sana, Mina, Momo, Chaeyoung, Dahyun, and Tzuyu, Twice is the ultimate girl group of 2018. Debuted in 2015 through the SIXTEEN survival program held by JYP Entertainment, Twice debuted with the mini-album titled The Story Begins which managed to dominate various charts in countries all around the globe.

The popularity of Twice has never dimmed since. It was recorded in 2018 that their comeback album “What is Love?” sold over 341,705 copies. Through the album sales alone, they superbly famous earned 5.97 billion KRW.  Twice has become one of the many girl groups whose existence and popularity cannot be doubted. Ranging from variety shows, music programs, concerts, to other variety of events, the audience will surely be flooded whenever Twice is joining.

BLACKPINK

Since their debut in 2016 ago, the YG Entertainment’s girl group has indeed attracted the attention of K-Pop lovers. Blackpink has four members, Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rose which are charming in their own way. The four members of the group each have their own roles to play, this is because, in addition to having a beautiful face, the four Blackpink members also have a wide range of abilities. Jennie and Lisa are known to be good at rap. While Rose and Jisoo play important roles in terms of vocals.

Within 24 hours, the music video of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ gathers around 33,713,799 spectators. Their music video also ranks in the ninth most watched music video of all time in less than 24 hours.
